Fuck You Apple! iTunes sucks now. How the fuck is anyone supposed to actually manage their music collection!? I do not want to stream my music. I want to play it from my iPod, and I want it to play the way I organize it.
LET ME DO THINGS HOW I WANT THEM DONE ASSHOLES!

Then just don't get the apple music trial. End of story.

Or get a Zune haha.

No.
I said I DO NOT WANT TO STREAM MY MUSIC. I already own a large collection of files. I want to store them on my iPod, and play them from there, not over the airwaves.
I want to manage my music files myself, put them in the order I want them to play.

iTunes has always sucked.

Then do what I said, DO NOT GET THE APPLE MUSIC TRIAL.

As someone who has used iTunes since Day 1, I would heartily agree.

True. But for a while, one could actually move music around on playlists and play songs in the order one wanted them to. Now, nothing makes sense, there are no controls unless you go look for them, and Apple wants to you just stream everything.
I already have all the files I want. I do not need to stream them. I just want to make a playlist of songs in the order I want them to play and sync it with my iPod.
THIS IS WHAT ITUNES WAS CREATED TO DO!!!!!!! WHY IS THIS SO FUCKING DIFFICULT APPLE!

Came to post this. Beaten to it.

There are plenty of non-iTunes alternatives out there. Google “manage ipod without itunes”

also being able to do it without randomly locking up would be nice. Did they get rid of the option to manually manage your library? I literally uninstalled iTunes the other day because it kept hanging. I hadn’t updated it yet.

Why would I do that!? I already said I do not want to stream music. Your suggestion is not relevant because I have already dismissed streaming as an option.

So then what’s the problem?
IMO, iTunes for local files still works perfectly well.

Not funny. The Zune software no longer works. They don’t make them anymore either.
I have a Windows phone, but it won’t sync with my W8.1 SP3 using WMP. MS only cares about Windows 10, so in the mean time I am stuck with useless hardware and software that does not work and I have no options.
I WANT TO BREAK THINGS. DO NOT FUCK WITH MY MUSIC COLLECTION!!!!

You can, but you have to dig for more finite controls. I cannot figure out how to get albums to appear in a specific order in a playlist though.
The updates have not been an improvment. If you can avoid using iTunes, do so. It’s not worth it.

I cannot figure it out with the new update. It is not difficult to manage files. Let me see them, organize them, and sort them how I want. How hard can that be?

Yeah, it has gotten less intuitive in the latest updates, I will admit. Not saying from a bystander point, I use iTunes quite often.

This is why I keep an old version on one computer for my old touch and a semi old version on my other computer for my phone which i haven’t updated in 1.5 years.
you can always roll back your itunes, and device

My girlfriend complains about this every time I'm in the car with her.

Simple, make your own playlists on the computer and then play them from the I Pod. I made a couple of different ones and usually shuffle them. It works for me!

Uh...That’s what I am trying to do. It doesn’t work. It’s confusing and isn’t complicated, but Apple makes it difficult on purpose for no reason.

Do you have any experience with any of those programs in particular?
I’d really rather just use WMP, but it sucks about the same as iTunes does, and I can’t even sync my Windows phone with it.

No, I don’t. I downloaded something a few years ago because I wanted to grab a bunch of music off my Dad’s iPod. It worked in exactly the fashion that iTunes should, showing all the files that Apple hides. I would just Google and read some reviews and give some a try.

Okay. I will have a look around. I found a couple of programs, but I hoped for some personal recommendations before I install anything. My SP3 runs well, and I’d rather not jinx it with bad software.

I don’t blame you. Good luck. I have avoided the latest iTunes on my iMac, and having read your post, I’m glad I did!

I could avoid all of this if MS would support their own damn products.

Apple has released OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 and iTunes 12.2.2. No idea if this will help you with your issues, or if it’s a Yosemite-only thing.
The iTunes update fixes sorting issues, playlist display issues, adds artist interaction through Connect in iTunes, and adds “improvements to overall stability and performance.”

I’m on W8.1 a Surface Pro 3, but I did get the iTunes update.
